A critical review of energy scenarios in Vietnam
Résumé
This critically review of various energy scenarios in Vietnam highlights Vietnam's current reliance on coal for electricity generation and compares the country's increasing CO2 emissions to France's decreasing trend. The review encompasses 10 studies and 24 scenarios, including Vietnam's Power Development Plan (PDP) and Renewable Energy Development Strategy (REDS). Indicators such as generation mix, coal capacity, CO2 emissions, and renewable energy share are used for scenario comparison. Findings indicate that Vietnam could potentially meet its GHG reduction commitments with international support if it adopts greener scenarios. However, challenges remain due to high costs and market conditions, which hinder the full utilization of renewable energy in Vietnam. The document emphasizes the need for investment in clean power generation and the integration of renewable energy into the grid, considering socio-economic and environmental impacts.
