VIET: why, who, what? Activities overview for year one

Résumé

The Vietnam Institute for Energy Transition (VIET) has focused on achieving 100% domestic renewable energy production to address energy poverty and ensure the security of water and food supplies, taking into account the specific conditions of the country. During its inaugural year, VIET has been involved in significant research endeavors, including an analysis on the potential for biomass co-firing in the Vietnamese coal sector and the investigation of household electricity consumption patterns. The think tank has contributed policy briefs concerning renewable energy legislation and the implementation of auction mechanisms, offering insights into the transition of Vietnam's power sector. Through participation in international forums and the organization of local events, VIET has facilitated discussions on energy planning, climate change, and sustainable development. The team supports the national agenda for renewable energy, with a focus on expanding wind power capacity by 2030 and evaluating the integration of gas-powered solutions within the energy framework.
