Modelling and optimization approaches for advanced manufacturing systems

This paper is about modelling and optimization approaches for advanced manufacturing systems. A systematic multi-level formalism based on Transition-timed Petri nets (T-TPN) has been introduced to model complex manufacturing systems with partial precedence constraints. Then, the most popular approaches used for the optimization of scheduling problems in advanced manufacturing systems have been reviewed. Indeed, we present exact methods whose completeness of the resolution is guaranteed and approximate methods which lose completeness to gain in efficiency. Finally, the use of Beam Search method which is consistent with the proposed modelling approach is detailed.
