Une production dystopique ? Images, discours et conditions de travail dans l’industrie vidéoludique
Résumé
There years after the controversial release of Cyberpunk 2077 (CD Projekt RED, 2020) and its return to favor with the Phantom Liberty extension, this article returns to the causes and consequences of this scandal. It seeks to understand, how such a gap could have appeared between the studio’s initial proposal, presented through a breathtaking marketing campaign, and the reality of the game at hand, disturbed by many technical and aesthetic malfunctions. It thus questions the working conditions within the studio and the marketing, managerial and communicational strategies of the company. It finally analyses the process of audiences’ reversal in its favor, as the game has become one of the most acclaimed titles in recent years.
Trois ans après la sortie polémique de Cyberpunk 2077 (CD Projekt RED, 2020) et son retour en grâce avec l’extension Phantom Liberty, cet article revient sur les causes et les conséquences de ce scandale vidéoludique. Il cherche à comprendre comment un tel écart a pu apparaître entre la proposition initiale du studio, présentée à travers une campagne marketing époustouflante, et la réalité du jeu à sa sortie, parasité par de nombreux dysfonctionnements techniques et esthétiques. Il questionne ainsi les conditions de travail au sein du studio et les stratégies marketing, managériales et communicationnelles de l’entreprise. Il analyse enfin le processus de retournement des audiences en sa faveur, le jeu étant devenu l’un des opus les plus plébiscités de ces dernières années.
