Accounting methods in hyperinflationary economies : The cases of Argentina and Zimbabwe
Résumé
These last years, inflation has become a stake in Accounting. In the 70s, with the creation of inflation accounting, accounting and management become "specific" to inflationary and hyper-inflationary contexts, leading to the birth of alternative accounting, whose role is to ensure that information conveyed by a company is a faithful representation of its financial situation and its performance. The implementation of such specific methods has its shortcomings and its advantages. We analyze the implementation of accounting standards IAS 21 and IAS 29 in two hyperinflationary economies: Argentina and Zimbabwe. Even if many reasons justify the use of international standards in developing countries, the pressure from the profession is important. In both cases, we conclude to the existence of normative isomorphism.
