Porous Ionic Liquids Go Green
Résumé
This perspective points towards pathways to prepare porous ionic liquids using easily accessible materials, aiming for reduced environmental impact. We demonstrate that suspensions of porous solids are stable in eutectic mixtures, underscoring their potential for the preparation of porous ionic liquids. Porous ionic liquids retain the wide electrochemical window observed in their precursor pure ionic liquids, rendering them well-suited for green electrochemical reactions, particularly those involving gases, whose solubility is enhanced in the porous suspensions. Moreover, their capacity as gas-rich media point to sustainable biomedical and pharmaceutical applications, provided nontoxic, bio-compatible ionic liquids and porous solids are utilized.
