A compact, high gain and high efficiency 8×2 patch antenna array for 60 GHz communication systems
Résumé
In this paper, a compact, high-gain and high-efficiency 8×2 elements microstrip patch antenna array has been designed, fabricated, and characterized. The proposed array configuration was optimized to operate at 60 GHz frequency band, using as a material, a thin ceramic substrate (ε r = 9.9 and h = 127 μm) and, as a technique, the inset-feed based on quarter-wave impedance matching method. Design simulation has been performed by using Advanced Design System Software (ADS) from Keysight Technologies. The proposed array structure exhibits excellent performances in terms of gain (16.8 dB), directivity (17.9 dB), and radiation efficiency (77.43%). It therefore meets perfectly the requirement for short-range indoor wireless applications, and it can be a suitable candidate for the millimeter wave RF front-end integrated circuits.
