Rewriting epics or how to give fictional heroines a voice

Résumé

Emily Hauser is a Classicist whose research focuses on women in Greek and Latin Antiquity and their reception in contemporary women’s writings. She also is the author of a fictional trilogy, The Golden Apple, in which she makes us hear the voices of Briseis, Chryseis, Atalanta, Admete and Hippolyta. Through rich narratives held by powerful women’s voices, she unveils left-aside stories, giving her characters a story to tell and a role to play. Exploring the process of re-writing, Emily Hauser talks us into reading again the great epics, making us see heroism from the women’s point of view. How does Emily Hauser give her voice to the Ancient mythological women? What do these women have to say? How do their voices tangle themselves in order to sing a new heroism?
