The permanency of the implicit affective memory among old people in severe stage of neuroevolutionary disease

Résumé

According to some authors, there is a persistence of emotional memory in people with neuroevolutionary disease despite the presence of cognitive deficits. It would allow individuals to recognize individuals without being able to name them. However, the concept of affective memory remains, today, far too little documented. It is possible to observe that the latter still suffers in our society from negative, even apocalyptic social representations. These are mainly based on the mental and physical deficiencies of the elderly person, thus leading to attitudes of rejection. The error here would be to consider the elderly person as being devoid of any human feeling and to make the inability to remember the corollary of an absence of experience. The primary objective is to study the influence of emotional memory on recognition and recall capacity in older people with neuroevolutionary disease. Older people would be able to verbalize or perform non-verbal behavior in order to demonstrate the unconscious recognition of an object or person. It would also contribute to changing the way our society views this much-stigmatized population. A research based on 11 meetings between the experimenter and 70 subjects with major neuro-cognitive disorders will be proposed. The encounters will take place either in an experimental situation where the emotional valence is positive (35 participants) or neutral (35 participants). The Biloba building set will act as a relational device. Each meeting will be filmed. The analysis will be based on the data recorded on the videos in order to allow the transcription and coding of the participants' behaviors in each experimental situation showing any signs of recognition or non-recognition. This work will shed light on the creation of a bond that takes place in the regularity of encounters between a previously unknown caregiver and a person with a neuro-evolutionary disease.
