Stylistic similarities and dissimilarities in ELL productions based on mode of production: A look into Academic Prose in typed and handwritten productions of French higher education students learning English

The general transition towards digital production comes with linguistic benefits and consequences within an academic setting and the purpose of this article was to explore and discuss the linguistic similarities and dissimilarities of typed productions (TP) and handwritten productions (HWP) to the end of examining the influence of the implement on the linguistic complexity of the final academic productions. This was operationalised by analysing primary data collected from ELL university students and empirically examining the stylistic composition of both modes of production. The article briefly introduces the background of the research: writing in non-digital and digital contexts. It then explores Academic Prose as a genre. It subsequently presents the results of stylistic features. Finally, it presents conclusions and implications related to academic writing in ELL based on mode of production.
