Dante's or novelistic crimes: From Hell to Purgatory by Matthew Pearl

Crimini danteschi o romanzeschi : Dall’ Inferno al Purgatorio di Matthew Pearl

Résumé

From the infinite series of detective novels connected to Dante’s major work and united by the narrative support provided by the Comedy, which is used as a total fabula and an endless reservoir of other fictions, The Dante Club (2003) and The Dante Chamber (2018) by the American Matthew Pearl stand out as an intelligent vulgarization of literary and cultural history on the foundations of a serious university work and served by an effective thriller. Both texts have enjoyed extraordinary success, literary awards, countless translations and critical reviews in all languages: this contribution seeks to analyze the reasons why.
