The article shows how well established Fénelon was in the British cultural landscape before the translation and distribution of Telemachus by the Chevalier de Ramsay. It analyses how the Archbishop of Cambrai became a classic in a complex political and religious context. Already a model of eloquence and pedagogy, he established himself in Great Britain as a veritable model of life to the extent that Fénelon almost became, for the British reception, a Protestant Whig without knowing it
