Les mares comme marqueurs des activités agro-pastorales - Etude pluri-disciplinaire et multi-scalaire en Seine-Maritime

Léa Mairaville

Résumé

The subject of this master’s thesis is "Ponds as markers of agro-pastoral activities - Multidisciplinary and multi-scalar study in Seine-Maritime". It was made under the direction of Christophe Petit and under the scientific guardianship of Philippe Fajon and Mohand Medjkane. By taking the example of Normandy and in particular the “Pays de Caux”, we will analyze the ponds on a long-term scale, from the end of the Protohistory to the present day. The study area is multiscalar and consists of an interlocking of different geographic scales. We will focus on ponds in a watershed, ponds in selected towns in the “Pays de Caux”, and finally, on ponds themselves through the collection of sediment samples. Related to agro-pastoral activities, the ponds now appear as markers of rural activities. Defining their morphology and associations of ponds is therefore essential for understanding environmental dynamics. This research work in environmental archeology on ponds is novel, at the confluence between local history of pond use, spatial analysis, archeology and laboratory descriptions. The main themes of research are focused on the pond and the hydrogeology and monitoring of the evolution of the pond through time. The main points that underlie these themes are the precise description of the context of establishment of ponds in the “Pays de Caux” and the analysis of its morphological evolution across time.
