An Ordinal Optimization approach to the solution of homogenous redundancy allocation for Multi-State Series-Parallel Systems

Résumé

Redundancy allocation is an NP-hard problem, under the binary-state setting; the computation burden is even higher for the multi-state case. Ordinal Optimization (OO) is an efficient soft optimization approach, whose time and space complexity is constant and independent of the size of the problem. It seeks the good-enough solution with high probability, instead of searching the certainly best solution. In this study, we design an OO algorithm to tackle Redundancy Allocation Problems (RAPs) in Homogenous Multi-State Series-Parallel Systems (HMSSPS). To validate the proposed method, a recursive algorithm designed to find the exact solutions to the RAPs is developed, for compariso
