The šmʿy.t or chantress was one of the musical titles of ancient Egyptian temples held by women. In Akhmim, a number of women from the New Kingdom held this position in the cult of the goddess Isis. This paper aims at examining these individuals from a prosopographical perspective in order to determine their social background and connections.
