The idea of a transformation into character and that of the roles interchangeability runs through the entire creation of Matéi Visniec. The two-sided vision between East and West allows him to become a character in his own books, not only in the sense of autofiction: the autobiographical facts of "Panic Syndrome in the City of Light" are part of the panorama of the Parisian literary life of immigrant writers. Reflections on exile – questions of one’s
native language, nostalgia, expatriation, freedom – take on their full scope in the global context of immigration and of interaction between two cultures: the one from which one departs and the one in which one arrives.
The article analyzes the threshold situation between East and West in the works of Matéi Visniec and the author’s creation, by means of writing, of a fictional spatio-temporal passage between two worlds.
