Northern regional Italian (first draft)
Résumé
This chapter provides an overview of the main linguistic features of northern regional Italian, the diatopic variant of Italian spoken in the basin of the river Po and surrounding mountain areas. The linguistic features of northern regional Italian are compared to those of the dialectal ad/sub-stratum. After a bird's eye view of the main traits, the chapter focuses on two syntactic domains (complementation and negation) that are particularly complex, given their structural properties and the interaction with pragmatic and semantic factors.
