Representativeness of Archaeological Data to the Identification of Historical Facts in Protohistory
The study of protohistoric landscapes and territories requires a global approach to the archaeological data available in a
given region. These data come from different archaeological activities (surveys, preventive archaeology, research programs…), which
induce biases linked to each of them. It is essential to keep a critical eye on the composition of our corpus, so as not to reproduce in our
models a research dynamic, but rather historical realities, which will be commented to understand these specificities. The gaps and the
phenomena of concentration of sites can be discussed by carrying out a study weighted according to the topographical data on the one
hand, but also according to the research carried out until then. Several cartographic and statistical tools are at our disposal to reconstruct
the behaviour of the societies studied. In this article, some reflections and methods are proposed on the basis of a corpus of sites relating
to the Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age in the Allier valley in the Basse-Auvergne region.
