Heat transfer modeling in glass processes, a key-point of process improvement

Résumé

In glassware markets related to tableware, for which ARC is one of the world leaders, the increased requirement of customer specifications, quality of production, but also of limiting the environmental impact, requires increased control and finer and more in-depth knowledge of processes, going from the molten glass inside the furnaces to the final product. For all these processes of shaping and developing the functional properties of the final products, heat transfers, in addition to the glass and ornaments chemistry, represent a key and central component. Modeling and numerical simulation are powerful tools allowing a better understanding and analyzing of the heat transfer effects on the processes and properties of final products. This then makes it possible to define and size the improvements of the processes going in the direction of a better quality of production. The paper will present some special highlights and key points of implementation of numerical simulations for this purpose.
