Novel Use of a Customized Attachment Device on an Exposed Reconstruction Plate for Retention of a Mandibular Removable Prosthesis: A Case Report
Résumé
Osteocutaneous free flap surgery is considered the clinical gold standard for mandibular reconstruction after invasive mandibular squamous cell carcinoma. Later complications such as plate exposure occur more commonly, with rates reported in the literature ranging from 10% to 15%, complicating or contraindicating the possibilities of prosthetic rehabilitation. An original technique for rehabilitating edentulous patients following carcinological reconstruction surgery is described. In this technique, a customized attachment device on an exposed reconstruction plate is used for retention of a mandibular removable prosthesis.
