Représentations sociales et pratiques déclarées de l’éducation à la santé à Mayotte

Résumé

In a cultural contrastive approach, this study identifies social representations of health education and the declared pedagogical practices of teachers living in Mayotte. The specific context of Mayotte is presented in contrast with research conducted 20 years earlier with a population of teachers from the mainland in France. A questionnaire survey (adapted from recognized work in the field of health education) is proposed to all primary school teachers in Mayotte, in February 2021. 85 teachers’ responses were collected. The results indicate that health education is an important subject for this sample but depends of teacher’s profiles. Distinct professional and societal values create distinct involvement level to implement health education activities. Educational themes are targeted by teachers and depend on the context. A modeling of the determinants of culturally meaningful health education teaching practices is discussed.
