This work is dedicated to predicting the macroscopic properties of hemp shiv from their real 3D morphology thanks to nanotomography. Image processing is made with Fiji-ImageJ. Morphology properties like porosity, Fibre orientation, Pore size, and tortuosity are predicted based on a VER study. Morphological properties like porosity, fiber orientation, pore size and tortuosity are evaluated using a set of Representative Elemental Volumes (REVs) extracted from the 3D images. The Effective Thermal Conductivity (ETC) is also determined in the three orthogonal directions through a simulation code written in Fortran language which is based on the finite volume method. The formulation of the energy equation considers the role of water in the heat transfer in its bound form and as vapor.
ABSTRACT.
