Riflessioni sulla centuriazione romana: paradigmi interpretativi, valenza paesagistica, signiicato storico
Résumé
Roman centuriation, mainly because of its extension and readability on cartographic and remote sensed data in a large part of the Roman territory, has attracted the interest of the scholars since the middle of the nineteenth century. For a long time, its study has mostly been based on the analysis of territorial representations. A renewal of this approach, mainly due to the activity of Nereo Alfieri, founder of the Bologna University Topographical School, underlined the multi-disciplinary character of the Roman centuriation and its connection with geomorphological as-pects. More recently, Roman centuriation has started to be considered as a diachronic phenom-enon, which can evolve long after its original planning, in Roman times. The purpose of this article is to take stock of the historiography on this question, in order to underline its main his-torical and topographical aspects and its relevance to the study of Roman landscape.
