Direct-Modulation Optoelectronic Oscillator for Optical Frequency Comb and Pulse Generation
Résumé
Opto-electronic oscillators (OEOs) are able to produce low phase noise radio-frequency signals thanks their high-quality-factor resonator that includes a km-long optical delay line [1]. While the main use of OEOs is synthesis ultra-pure electrical and clock distribution, it also possible generate short pulses with timing jitter, using for instance nonlinear compression in OEO fiber [2], applications such as sampling, remote sensing (RADAR, LiDAR), frequency comb generation so forth. We have recently demonstrated 10 GHz direct-modulation (DM-OEO) -135 dBc/Hz at kHz. In this work, we propose take advantage output DM-OEO order broaden spectrum possibly ultra-low jitter by long SMF fiber. To end, designed an optoelectronic loop including modulator positively chirp laser field, Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) increase effects (see Fig. 1a).
