Evaluation of Biofilm Forming Potential and Antimicrobial Resistance Profile of S. aureus and P. aeruginosa Isolated from Peripheral Venous Catheters and Urinary Catheters In Algeria, in vitro Study

Résumé

Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus are prominent pathogens responsible for device-associated infections that pose a significant challenge in clinical management. The biofilm-forming ability of these bacteria is major factor contributing to treatment failures the recurrence infections. This study was conducted evaluate biofilm production potential isolated from urinary peripheral venous catheters. Additionally, aimed determine antibiotic resistance pattern producers non-biofilm strains. identification followed conventional microbiological procedures, while detection involved both qualitative quantitative methods using Congo red agar (CRA) Tissue Culture Plate (TCP) techniques, respectively. Antibiotic susceptibility determined through Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method. Of 22 strains P. 29 S. 116 Peripheral catheters 20 catheters, CRA method identified 27.27% 24.14% as strong producers. Meanwhile, 9.09% 51.72% were moderate TCP detected 37.93% S.aureus producers, 54.55% 48.28% test revealed biofilm-producing mostly more resistant antibiotics than nonbiofilm All strains, Penicillin (100%), but susceptible Vancomycin (100%) Teicoplanin (100%). almost all groups antibiotics, except Ticarcillin (18.18%), Piperacillin (27.27%), Imipenem Rifampicin Our findings showed biofilm-producer exhibited high rates only some emphasized importance seeking new strategies prevent biofim formation combat emergence resistance.
