Geissleria tahitiensis sp. nov. (Cymbellaceae, Bacillariophyceae), a common diatom in Society Islands rivers
Résumé
This study describes Geissleria tahitiensis, a newly identified diatom species from Tahiti and Moorea (French Polynesia). Originally classified as Navicula ignota var. tahitiensis (Coste & Ricard, 1990), it was later reclassified under Geissleria due to its distinctive annulus (mucus-excreting structures) and central pore—a feature absent in closely related species like G. schoenfeldii. The study corrects prior invalid nomenclature and contributes to the diatom flora of Indo-Pacific islands.
