The Ocular Mathematical Virtual Simulator: the sensitivity analysis of a validate multiscale model for hemodynamics and biomechanics in the human eye.

Résumé

Optic neuropathies such as glaucoma are often late-onset, progressive, and incurable diseases. Despite recent advances in clinical research, there are still numerous open questions about the origin and development of these disorders and their pathophysiology. In addition, data on posterior ocular tissues are difficult to estimate noninvasively, and their clinical interpretation remains challenging because of the interaction between multiple factors that are not easily isolated. The recent use of mathematical models applied to biomedical problems has helped unravel the complex mechanisms of human physiology. In this very interesting context, my work is devoted to the development of a mathematical and computational model that couples tissue perfusion and biomechanics of the human eye called Ocular Mathematical Virtual Simulator (OMVS). In the presentation, I will show the validation and a preliminary sensitivity analysis performed for this patient-specific multiscale model, which is able to disentangle multiphysics factors in an accessible environment, employing advanced and innovative mathematical models and numerical methods.
