Which optimization “flavor” for sizing Microgrid energy systems?
Résumé
We review the main benefits and drawbacks of "two and a half" optimization approaches ("flavors") to solve the microgrid sizing problem:
1. Blackbox optimization which is based on a Microgrid simulator (1a. gradient-free and 1b. with gradient using ForwardDiff.jl for Automatic Differentiation)
2. Algebraic approach (i.e. linear programming) which is based on an acausal description (using JuMP).
From this comparison, no single approach emerges as the clear winner, so that all of them are worth exploring.
