Indicators of inflammation in equine and bovine medicine
Protéines de la phase aiguë: utilisation raisonnée des marqueurs de l'inflammation.
Résumé
Subclinical inflammatory or infectious diseases can be present and persist for a long time before their impact on health is detected. Careful evaluation of acute phase protein (APP) concentrations may reflect the presence, level and relative duration of underlying inflammation. The aim of this article is to summarize the practically aspects of current knowledge on inflammation biomarkers in cattle and horses. Particular attention is paid to the relevance of APP in the detection, the diagnosis and the prognosis of different diseases. These biomarkers are both sensitive and effective since an increase in their concentration is never physiological and may be the first and even the only sign of an underlying subclinical disease.
