A togatus statue discovered in the ancient town of Briord (Ain)
A togatus, dating to the first part of the 1st c. AD, was discovered, in proximity to a Roman road, during the archaeological survey of an urban district of Briord (Ain). The sculpted limestone object, is nearly complete and depicts a toga with noteworthy characteristics. Likely part of a funerary monument, the limestone is also a local product. This object sheds new light on the Roman urban centre of Briord, located between Lyon and Geneve, on the right bank of the river Rhône, and at the border of Vienne and the Allobroges civitas.
