The University’s third mission and third-places
Résumé
This article explains the significance of university third-places in regional development and their ability to foster innovation, collaboration, and knowledge sharing. The article explores the correlation between new entrepreneurial university models, third-places, and local regional development. The research findings suggest that university third-places serve as effective tools for regional development by providing a platform for academics, industry experts, and local actors to interact, exchange knowledge, resources, and ideas. These exchanges can stimulate collaboration and innovation, leading to an increase in economic growth. The authors posit that universities are not just places for knowledge transfer but also sites for experimentation and innovation. Furthermore, universities as infrastructures are increasingly playing a role similar to a large-scale third-place to promote the development of its hosting territories. These dynamics are influenced by political and socio-economic factors that highlight the need for universities to play an entrepreneurial role and adapt to the evolving society and economy.
