Inequalities in Domestic Work and Production of Children: Has the First Lockdown Changed the Gender Order?
Inégalités dans le travail domestique et production des enfants
Résumé
The questions this article seeks to answer are, on the one hand, whether the domestic organisation of child production by parental couples underwent changes during the initial lockdown period related to the management of the health crisis of covid‑19, and on the other hand, whether these changes are the signs of a real shift in the gendered division of labour among the surveyed families. This article is based on data analysis from the COV‑JEUNENFANT survey, which aimed to reveal the respective responsibilities of spouses within couples, as well as the possible changes that occurred with the lockdown. This survey was carried out during the first lockdown among 490 families residing in France and including at least one child under the age of 6. By highlighting the nature and the differences of the tasks carried out by each parent, our analysis contributes to isolating the ones which, as they are related to the child, participate in the strengthening of the relationship.
