Calculating Fluid–Structure Interactions Using Co-simulation Techniques (chapter 8)
Résumé
Fluid–structure interaction (FSI) means an exchange of energy between fluid and solid media that mutually influence one another according to a process called “retroaction”. This chapter addresses “co-simulation techniques” to leverage the features of structural and fluid dynamics solvers to represent FSIs for real geometries, such as deformable lifting bodies. A “co-simulation” consists of solving FSI problems numerically by solving, on the one hand, both the fluid and the structure problems and, on the other hand, a set of conditions that take into account the energy transfers at their interface. The mathematical formulation of a mechanical FSI problem can be written in the general framework of the definition of a coupled system proposed by some previous studies. This chapter summarizes a mathematical formulation of an FSI problem, relying on the example of coupling with an “external” fluid.
