For the past 50 years, many countries have been moving psychiatric support from a hospital-based model to community-based care. This process, known as deinstitutionalisation, has been defined with three main components: the movement of individuals from hospitals into the community; their diversion from hospital admission; and the development of alternative community services (Introd.)
