Butt-coupling of semiconductor lasers and passive waveguides by direct epitaxy on patterned Si photonic wafers

Résumé

Although a variety of semiconductor lasers grown on (001) Si substrates have been demonstrated, their direct epitaxial integration with passive devices on photonic chips is still missing. In this communication we will present the first semiconductor laser grown on a Si photonics platform in a butt-coupling configuration, and we will demonstrate laser light coupling into SiN waveguides.
