THE NOTION OF AGE IN CHILDREN WITH INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENTAL DISORDERS
Children are able to indicate their age from the age of 6 (Binet, Simon, 1908; Samartzi, 2008). However, around 8-9 years old, they become unsettled when we ask them: "But by the way, how long ago were you born? Answering this question requires logical-mathematical skills such as conservation of speed, transitivity and nesting of units. It is through their actions that children will build these skills (Long, Kamii, 2001). How are they constructed? Is this construction identical in children with and without intellectual developmental disorders? What are the mechanisms that underpin this development?
