Le nouveau plan topographique du tell de Ras Shamra
Résumé
Between 2000 and 2001, the Franco-Syrian mission undertook a new topographic survey of the tell of Ras-Shamra. This precise plan highlights the complexity of the relief which witnesses the history of its occupation. A comparison of the digital model resulting from the new plan with the map published in 1932 by Mr. Spassof brings out the topographic disturbances caused by the digging and excavations carried out during last century. Moreover, it is now possible to evaluate the phenomenon of erosion over a given period. This new plan will soon be used as a basis for a Geographical Information System (GIS) so it will be possible to connect the urban development of the ancient city with its current topography. A series of graphic documents based on the survey will provide a better vision of the site and will help to work out new hypothesies of the urban development
