Résumé
This papers aims at contributing to an Atlantic literary history conceived as historians consider Atlantic history. Transatlantic novel appears to be the product of European colonial and imperial expansion, the triangular trade between Europe, Africa and Americas and the progress of nations towards independance. Transatlantic novel is built in relation to a set of governing values connected with bourgeoisie, capitalism, rationality, masculinity… It questions spatial, historical or value-based centrality of standards prescribed by the West. Transatlantic novel sets up the issues of identity construction, geopolitics and culture by involving intercontinental network which includes at least two cultural backgrounds.
