« Montgrand traduttore dei Promessi sposi : “ce plaisir qui fait qu’on s’arrête devant une glace, quand on se trouve bien mis” »
Résumé
This essay aims to contextualize and analyse the French translation from the Quarantana by the marquis de Montgrand (1776-1847), who is also the author of a translation from the Ventisettana that Manzoni himself had praised. Based on a series of significant passages, the comparison between the original text and the target text (published posthumously in 1877) allows to characterize Montgrand’s work within a critical perspective which stresses on the interpretative potential of the source text and its preservation in translation.
