Les deux premières grammaires vietnamiennes écrites en latin (1651 et 1838)
Résumé
This paper aims to study the first two publications of a Vietnamese grammar written in Latin, namely:
(1) The Linguae Annamiticae seu Tunchinensis Brevis Declaratio as a separate section in the Dictionarium Annamicitum Lusitanum et Latinum published by Alexandre de Rhodes in 1651, and
(2) the Grammaticae compendium that formed part of the Dictionarium AnnamiticumLatinum published in 1838 by a father of the Missions Étrangères de Paris, Jean-Louis Taberd.
The paper investigate how the model of Latin grammar affected the description of seventeenth-century Vietnamese in Brevis Declaratio, and how the nineteenth-century Latin grammar taught in France influenced Taberd’s Grammaticae compendium.
