Characterization of Energy Saving Lamps in Indonesia Based on Power Quality

Résumé

The use of energy-saving lamps in Indonesia is increasing continuously. Currently, the use of LED lamps in residential is only 52%. While the use of CFL lamps is 41% and the incandescent lamp is 7%. Research on energy-saving lamps has resulted in several driver topologies for LED and CFLlamps. With the application of these topologies, energy-saving lamps can be categorized as non-linear loads that produce harmonic components. This paper will describe the characterization of several types of energy-saving lamps, such as LED and CFL which are still widely used in Indonesia. Measurements in this study use a Power Analyzer to determine the impact of using energy-saving lamps on Power Quality. In addition, another test is conducted to investigate lamp efficiency on luminance and active power to investigate lamp performance. The measurement results on several brands of lamps show that there are four different types of waveforms in LED lamps and one waveform in CFL lamps. Some types of LED have the same waveform as CFLs but have different power capacities with the same lumen range. At the same time, the four types of LED have different power factors and current levels. Then, the result of lamp efficacy shows that LED has a higher value than an incandescent lamp and CFL, so the characterizations of energy-saving lamps can be seen based ontheir efficiency and power quality.
