Résumé

This paper discusses the characterization of the mechanical properties of a fluorosilicone elastomer in the non-aged state. Since this material is used as a seal, i.e. subjected to high hydrostatic pressure, confined compression tests are carried out to determine its bulk modulus K, and tensile/compression tests for the elastic modulus E. The low value of the measured bulk modulus suggested to deviate from the common incompressibility assumption. Measurement of λT was required for the true stress calculation. Comparison between both engineering and true stress as a function of the longitudinal and transverse elongation was carried out. In addition, the material compressibility and constitutive models to describe the material will be discussed.
