This article examines the place of therapeutic abortion and prenatal diagnosis techniques in the management of birth defects in France from the 1960s onwards. By presenting the intersecting history of the legislation on therapeutic abortion and that of the establishment of perinatal care, it aims to situate the arrival of PND techniques in a context where therapeutic abortion for foetal anomaly can be envisaged as a modality, a resource in the prevention of birth disabilities.
