What are the Possible Futures in the Factories of the Future? The Case of Operators in an Aeronautics Company

Jérémy Vignal

Résumé

In this chapter, the authors discuss the issues raised by the deployment of the “industry of the future” project and propose to focus their analysis on a particular job that is characteristic of the industry: the job of operator. The deployment of the industry of the future in factories necessarily raises questions about the development of skills, the employability of employees and, more generally, human resources management. Since the beginning of the 2010s, the question of the digital transformation of companies has become a central issue for the industry. The chapter presents the case study that is based on research carried out within an industrial company in the aeronautical sector that is particularly concerned by the issue of digital transformation of its factories: the company Safran Aircraft Engines. The deployment of the factory of the future is changing the work of operators at Safran Aircraft Engines' production sites.
