The book is a collection of essays, articles, and contributions from scholars, activists, and intellectuals who delve into the historical and cultural context of the myth and its impact on Indian society. The book retells the story of Mahishasura, a powerful demon king who is often portrayed as a symbol of resistance against oppression in the Dalit-Bahujan community. The collection critically examines the dominant Hindu narrative surrounding Mahishasura and challenges the portrayal of him as a malevolent figure. The collection is an important resource for those interested in understanding the role of myths and cultural narratives in shaping the identities of communities in India. In conclusion, "Kiski puja kar rahe hain Bahujan: Mahishasura Ek Punarpath" is a valuable contribution to the literature on the Mahishasura myth and its significance in Indian culture and politics. After this book, another booklet was published in 2014 titled "Mahishasur". In 2016, a book "Mahishasur: Ek Jannayak" was published, combining the articles of both these booklets with some other accounts. After that, another independently edited book titled "Mahishasur: Myths and Traditions" [Mahishasura: Mithak aur Pramprayen] was published in Hindi. The English translation of "Mahishasur Ek Jannayak" was published under the name "Mahishasur: A people's Hero".
