Based on doctoral research on classical dance practices in the inner suburbs of Paris, this article examines the importance of mobility in the professional integration of dancers between France, England, and the United States. Using an intersectional approach based on gender, class and race, the aim is to show that the possibilities for individual mobility reflect national affiliations and unequal positions within power relations. In a sector where whiteness is the norm, the article interrogates the tension between local and global in the paths of racialized classical dancers seeking to make their place in this artistic field.
