Stand-alone site power supply based on a photovoltaic generator and a H2/O2 battery

Résumé

Systems based on renewable energies coupled to an hydrogen storage are original solutions for the electrical supplying of sites not very or not at all electrified. The H2/O2 battery, association of an electrolyzer, a fuel cell and gas tanks, could be an interesting solution to satisfy long periods of autonomy (typically seasonal storage). But its implementation is not so easy and the operation particularities due to involved electrochemical processes forced us to associate a secondary storage (typically a lead-acid battery) to this H2/O2 battery. This paper presents the reflections about electrical architectures achieved in the framework of the PEPITE French project whose objective was to supply a stand-alone technical site (meteorological pylon) from a photovoltaic generator and a H2/O2 battery.
