The House of the Frescoes in the archive of the excavations
Résumé
This appendix includes a transcription of the two archival sources of the excavation of the House of the Frescoes discussed in this volume: Duncan Mackenzie’s excavation diary from his 1923 Daybook (DM/DB) and miscellaneous notes from Arthur Evans’s Notebooks (AE/NB). A transcription of the text of DM/DB 1923 is presented first as a continuous narrative. In a side column running along with the text, comments guide the reader through the diary’s narrative, linking the text to the progress of excavation and finds presented in this volume. Facsimiles and digital transcriptions of all Mackenzie’s sketches that accompany his description in the original diary can be found in the PLANS section of this monograph.
Included here, is also an unpublished preliminary line plan of the House of the Frescoes, probably prepared by Piet de Jong for publication.
