Holonic control architectures

Résumé

This chapter presents a study of existing holonic architectures in order to identify the contributions of this type of control architecture to industrial cyber-physical systems (ICPS). First, their historical characteristics are presented, and demonstrate an interesting performance in the physical part of ICPS. The chapter then presents the evolutions of this concept that have led to a relevant integration in the cyber part of ICPS. Decision-making is a fundamental property of Holonic Control Architectures. Holonic component-based architecture consists of two types of components in the production system: the resource component and the product component. Due to the advent of Big Data-oriented methods, the need to control the data flows carried by the architecture has emerged. The concept of the digital twin in the industrial sector has become increasingly important in recent years. Its use is often seen as a standard interface between heterogeneous devices and the IT infrastructure in large and small production systems.
