Résumé

In the present paper, the design of a cup anemometer simulator is described. This is a project of the Instituto Universitario de Microgravedad “Ignacio Da Riva” (IDR/UPM) at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) that aims to develop a simulator to analyze the design of cup anemometers. The development of this simulator is based on the experience of more than 15 years of research regarding cup anemometer performance. The different stages from the rotation of the rotor produced by the aerodynamic torque to the output signal sampling are programmed in Matlab. Data from real anemometers (harmonic performance of the rotation of the anemometer shaft, errors of the opto-electronic system to generate the square-pulse output signal, etc.) are taken into account. The possibility of output signal post-processing is also foreseen. This simulator will allow researchers to study the effect of the different error sources separately. Additionally, different solutions to generate the pulses of the output signal can be analyzed, to obtain better measurements of the wind speed.
